These compact previews offer users a taste of the app's functionality, providing a brief insight without the commitment of a full installation. App Clips were the perfect solution for grabbing the attention of potential users and expanding TranslateChat's outreach.

However, my excitement encountered a setback with the release of iOS 17 and its unforeseen consequences. The security measures introduced in this update automatically stripped tracking parameters from URLs in Safari, Messages, and Mail – a seemingly minor alteration that presents a substantial challenge for App Clip developers.

I had meticulously crafted an App Clip URL, incorporating a parameter to add a personalized touch for users. In the pre-iOS 17 era, this link smoothly conveyed the intended information. However, post-update, users sharing the link via SMS, Safari, or Mail would discover the parameter missing:

This unintended consequence not only disrupted my app clips for TranslateChat but also created an obstacle for users keen on sharing the app's distinctive features with their friends and contacts. Faced with this challenge, I had to reconsider my strategy to maintain personalization within the new privacy constraints of iOS 17.

Identifying this bug was challenging, but the solution was straightforward and required a slight adjustment in the approach to URL structures. Instead of relying on parameters susceptible to iOS 17's automatic removal, I chose to embed essential information directly into the URL. This transformation turned out to be the workaround necessary to ensure that crucial details remained intact when shared through various channels:

I hope this proves helpful for anyone grappling with why their app clips aren't functioning as intended. While the automatic removal of tracking parameters in iOS 17 posed a curveball for TranslateChat's App Clip, my simple solution seems to be working. Here's how it works: In RevenueCat, you can run A/B tests by setting up a new subscription group in Apple's App Store Connect and creating an extra offering in RevenueCat to test against the original one. RevenueCat then presents the test to specific users and provides you with the results. However, when I completed the A/B test and decided to switch to the new pricing model, I encountered an issue. I changed the default offering to the one I tested, and an existing subscriber accidentally subscribed again.

Here's where things can get confusing: Offerings are not isolated environments. If a user subscribes to offering A, they can still subscribe to offering B. This happened because I set up offering A in a different subscription group from offering B.

To prevent users from accidentally subscribing twice, you have two options:

1. Implement safeguards in your app or server to prevent this from happening. (Recommended)
2. Ensure that both offering A and offering B are part of the same subscription group. (Not recommended because the user will be able to see these options from Apple's Subscription Details page.)

I found this to be a bit unclear at first. Apple does not currently have a way to manually unsubscribe an individual subscriber, so be careful. If you want to unsubscribe someone on your end, the only option is to remove your subscription from the store. This will remove all subscribers to that subscription. Fortunately, my test offering had a 1-week free trial, and only one subscriber encountered the issue. I simply removed that subscription from being available for purchase to ensure that the existing subscriber would not be charged twice.

I have been building an App Clip, I really appreciate how iOS allows for ephemeral notifications in App Clips. This means you can schedule or receive notifications for up to 8 hours after each launch of the App Clip. It's a great way to maximize user engagement with your app clip, with the goal of encouraging them to download the full app.

In conclusion, if you're using SNS to send push notifications to an App Clip, make sure to create a platform application specific to the App Clip's bundle identifier. And if you're building an App Clip yourself, don't forget to take advantage of ephemeral notifications to provide an engaging first time experience.

Construction on the Domino Sugar Refinery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn has reached a major milestone with the installation of the signature signage atop the 140-year-old former factory. Developed by Two Trees and designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), the $250 million project is known as The Refinery and is set to complete construction near the end of 2023.

Blank Street, the modern coffee chain geared at millennials and Gen Z, has come a long way since it first burst on the scene two years ago. Big Changes Could Be Coming To Park Slope Bus Routes

New York City Needs Housing for Everyone, Not More Shelter Beds

In response to the influx of migrants and skyrocketing rents, New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency in 2020. To address the perfect storm of insufficient temporary and permanent housing, the city opened emergency shelters, built tent intake centers, and negotiated with cruise line companies to house those in need. However, the right to shelter mandate has not solved the homelessness crisis, and the city must shift its mindset from a right to shelter to a right to housing. To achieve this, the city must reform zoning and land use processes, address the outdated property tax system, and invest more in the production of affordable housing, such as in the West Farms section of the Bronx. RiseBoro Community Partnership has already converted hotels and single-room occupancy buildings into affordable housing units in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Robert K. Elliott, of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., passed away Nov. 3, 2022. He was a Pottsville native and Harvard math major, and had a long career with KPMG, becoming partner in 1972. He was president of the AICPA and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Accounting Association. Today Is Tomorrow

On a chilly Fall weekday morning a few weeks ago, the dedication of the $7.1 million dollar Ravenswood Playground in Long Island City took place. This event reminded me of an article I wrote back in the 80’s entitled “Playgrounds for Peace.” Playgrounds are where peace on Earth begins, and the newly renovated Ravenswood Playground opened for use during the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, the playground was soon littered with debris and scorched by fireworks. To ensure a peaceful future, we must continue to prioritize playgrounds and nurture our beloved children in the values and beliefs that establish the necessity of peaceful co-existence.

I ordered their most popular dish, the crab cream croquette, and it did not disappoint. The croquette was perfectly crispy and the crab cream filling was both flavorful and generous. The dish also came with a small side of rice and miso soup. The croquette went great with the restaurant's special sauce - I could have eaten it all day!

I went for lunch, so the cost was only 1,100 yen. I definitely want to go back and try their mix fry set and the omelette rice set. If you're looking for a delicious and affordable meal in Kobe, then you should definitely head to L'ami!

If you're ever in Kobe and in the mood for some delicious Chinese cuisine, then you have to check out Xinling. It's located on Nakayamate-dori, and it's a great place to go with a large group of friends or family. This time I went for dinner, but I've been there for lunch multiple times before. I would highly recommend their lunch set menu - you get a variety of dishes all in one meal, and it's very affordable.

For dinner started with the fried spring rolls, which was absolutely delicious. It was followed by sweet and sour pork, chilli shrimp, lettuce roll, chicken with cashew nuts, and their famous mapo tofu. They also have a vegetarian special menu available, so there's something for everyone. Plus, the service is excellent. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and they're used to dealing with foreign customers so they're more than happy to adjust the menu to your requirements.

All in all, Xinling is a great restaurant and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kobe.

If you're in the mood for some delicious Italian cuisine, Tanta Bocca is the perfect spot. The restaurant is located in Shibuya, Tokyo, and it was very busy when I went for a late lunch at 2 pm on Sunday. I had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but it was well worth it.

I ordered the lunch set, which included a cream pasta with shrimp and zucchini, and grilled pork shoulder with a mustard sauce. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic. The fresh pasta was cooked to perfection and the pork was so tender it just melted in my mouth.

One thing to note is that Tanta Bocca doesn't accept cash, so be sure to bring your credit card. This is definitely a place to bring a date - the ambiance is romantic and the food is absolutely incredible.
